Rory Kinnear: ‘All I ever wanted to do was work at the National’ | Carousel, Interviews | The Stage
... If he’s avoided being an attention-seeking junkie as a result, one nice side-effect has been getting attention for the father he only knew for a short time. “It’s very nice being in the same business as your father when he’s well loved, as mine was, because I get to hear so many stories about him. It might be difficult if he was a notorious shit! But when you’re an actor, you get to meet a wide range of people. A couple of years ago, for what would have been my dad’s 80th birthday, I arranged an event at the Cinema Museum in Kennington, and spent about four or five months going through his films. After showing extracts from them, I got some mates of his including Brian Murphy, Sheila Hancock, George Layton and Murray Melvin to come and do a bit after. He’s very much part of me still; his presence is very much alive.” ...
... He now lives in nearby Kennington with his actor partner Pandora Colin, and their two children, a son aged five and a daughter, aged two. He and his partner have just worked together for the first time, filming the new series of Penny Dreadful in Dublin. “We didn’t meet through acting, but it’s useful to have someone who understands the nature of the business,” he adds. ...

This Northern Line Cheat Will Save You Minutes On Every Commute | Londonist
... What if the first train you board at Hampstead is going via Charing Cross? In that case, things aren’t quite so simple. For a start, most Charing Cross trains terminate at Kennington — only during peak times do a few services go all the way to Morden. Riding all the way through to Balham normally isn't even an option.
Thankfully, changing at Kennington doesn't slow you down too much. The average wait at Kennington for a southbound service is just 90 seconds, and the onward trip to Balham takes 11 minutes. Your total journey time is 1½ minutes (waiting) + 21 minutes (to Kennington) + 1½ minutes (waiting) + 11 minutes (to Balham) = 35 minutes. ...
... To the savvy traveller, however, this extra complication is a red herring. Since Balham is south of Kennington, pretty much every train that comes through will be going up the Bank branch. If you were to go all the way to Hampstead on one of these trains, you'd be looking at an average of 3 minutes (waiting) + 38 minutes (to Hampstead) = a tiresome 41-minute journey.
You can do a bit better by catching the first train that arrives at Balham — regardless of its eventual destination — then changing at Kennington for the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line. You'll have to factor in waiting time, however, since again every other service will be going to High Barnet. You can expect a total journey time of 1½ minutes (waiting) + 12 minutes (to Kennington) + 3 minutes (waiting) + 22 minutes (to Hampstead) = 39½ minutes. It's faster than staying on the Bank branch, but not by much. ...

The Tony Cozier I knew -- NationNews Barbados -- Local, Regional and International News nationnews.com
... The BBC played a clip that so sad last week Wednesday of Cozier commentating at the end of the fifth Test of the 1984 series against England, at Kennington Oval in London. The West Indies had completed a 5-0 whitewash/blackwash – call it what you want – of the hosts, the people who brought cricket to these islands and territories which TC represented so well for more than half a century. ...
Cozier: A man who had time for me - Columns - JamaicaObserver.com
... Deep down, I think Tony empathised with me, because, I mirrored in a sense, his own situation. There was West Indies cricket, whose identity, power and glory, were being paraded by mostly black men. It was never said, but I know he sensed it. Why shouldn’t it be a black man who is carrying the West Indies game to all the corners of the earth? In his commentary and writing, Tony had to answer that question every time he sat before a microphone or put pen to paper. He answered it with spot-on analysis, and spot-on critique. He refused to give his detractors any loopholes. In his mind, West Indies cricket belonged as much to him – a white Bajan, as it did to the thousands of black Caribbean fans who flocked to Kennington Oval and to Kensington Oval. I saw his gaining acceptance, as a struggle similar to mine. And because he helped me to fight my battle, I considered him my friend. ...

... The
idea of splitting up the Northern line isn't crazy. It originally was two
separate lines — the City and South London Railway (running from Morden via
Bank to Camden Town) and the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway
(running fromKenningtonto Edgware via Charing Cross, with a
spur to Archway from Camden Town). ... Before that can happen, Camden Town station needs significant upgrade works,
as doesKennington,
because these stations would become major interchanges between the two lines.
... It seems almost certain that the Edgware branch would run via Charing
Cross and terminate atKennington.
Or, quite possibly, terminate at Battersea Power Station — the way TfL has
drawn themap of the extension it's quite clearly running
on from the Charing Cross branch. The new stations at Nine Elms and Battersea
are scheduled to be ready by 2020. ... It's tempting to keep the Northern
line name for the Edgware-Kennington/Battersea line and call
Barnet-Morden the Southern line. This, however, is a bit boring (though still
better than naming a line after another member of the royal family). ...

The K Bar at The Kensington - TNT Magazine ... On arrival I was greeted with the bar’s signature cocktail – the Kensington Champne Cocktail (£12.50), Perrier Jouet Grand Brut, Calvados, Sugar, Rhubarb Bitters, fizzy and wonderfully refreshing. Which Branch Of The Northern Line Is Quickest? | Londonist

Funfair Truck Blocking Kennington Road. - YouTube
Is a funfair coming to Kennington Park? If so, why do they have to block the whole of Kennington Road? Especially when people are trying to get somewhere and there is traffic in London, so why this?
Medimex on Kennington Park Road, opposite the park, is having its funding reduced in line with lots of other small, local pharmacies. They are asking people to sign a petition, which is inside the shop. If your designated pharmacy is a big company like Boots, you might want to consider moving your custom to one of the small local businesses, of which there are several in the area.

Today all the houses in Courtenay Street, Courtenay Square and Cardigan Street got stickers on the doors advertising a 24/7 locksmith. The number given is 07932961616. I don't know what other street have been targeted.
This scam was first reported a couple of years ago (using the same number). It is a group of burglars who put them on the doors and then, a few days later, if they have not been removed, reckon that the house is empty. It would be really good if you could let people know, through Kennington News, and ask them to remove the stickers from both their own house and any neighbours.
