Angry father catches drug dealer in street

Felix Allen

A father-of-three who waged a war against a notorious drug dealer who set up shop in his neighbourhood today won his battle as the culprit was jailed for six years.
Property developer Charlie Skinner eventually caught Xiao-Po He after getting into the dealer's flat pretending to be a customer.
After being rumbled he fought off an attack by two of He's henchmen before chasing the dealer down the street, wrestling him to the ground and holding him in a headlock until police arrived.
The 47-year-old took the law into his hands after becoming enraged with a “constant stream” of drug addicts turning up at all hours of the day to buy cocaine and crystal meth in his Kennington street.
As He, 26, was jailed at Inner London crown court, the man who apprehended him told the Standard he had not given a thought to his own safety.
Mr Skinner, who lives in Kennington with wife Sian, daughters Florence, 12, Maisie, 11, and son Teddy, nine, said he had contacted police over his concerns and was advised to keep a log of comings and goings from the flat.
He said: “I thought, what a waste of time'. I wasn't going to stand for it happening on our doorstep.
“I followed some customers up to the door and when it opened I slipped in behind them. I didn't really know what to expect inside but there were quite a few people in the hallway having some sort of argument.
“I had a bit of an altercation with the two guys at the door who wanted to know who I was — they tried to fight me so I hit one of them and ran back to my house to call the police.
“Then my wife saw him [the dealer] leaving in a hurry and I thought, I'm not having that'. I chased after him, wrestled him to the floor and performed a citizen's arrest. I was just so angry I didn't feel any fear. I'm a south London boy and I can look after myself.”
An off-duty policeman arrested He after finding drugs in his pockets. More illegal substances were discovered at the flat in March this year.
The illegal immigrant was already on bail after being caught with a stash of drugs worth more than £12,000 plus £4,300 in cash in a raid on another flat in Camberwell last November.
Judge Mark Bishop awarded Mr Skinner £100 for his pivotal role in taking the dealer off the streets.
His proud wife Sian, 44, a legal adviser, said: “It was pretty amazing what Charlie did, but he's like that. He's not shy to let people know what he thinks of them. I think more people should be like he is."

New cycling schemes from Boris

New cycling schemes from Boris

An injured cyclist is helped into an ambulance
TWO new cycling schemes are being introduced to South London’s streets this summer as City Hall encourages more people to get on their bikes.
But the plans have been criticised by cycling groups and politicians who fear not enough is being done to protect those on their bikes.
The very real danger faced by cyclists is illustrated by the number of accidents and fatalities on our roads.
London Mayor Boris Johnson announced in May that the first of his so-called cycle superhighways would open on July 19.
The first runs from Merton to the City via Tooting High Street, Balham High Road, Kennington Park Road, Elephant & Castle and Southwark Bridge Road.
Roadworks are currently taking place near Kennington Park in preparation for the new route.
The painted lanes, along the side of roads, will be at least 5ft wide, allowing cyclists travelling in opposite directions to pass each other.
The Mayor’s Cycle Hire scheme will also soon be rolled out, with the bikes expected to be available from July 30.
The £160million project will allow residents to hire a bike for £1 a day or £45 a year.
Mr Johnson said: “I am determined to transform London into a city that cycles and where hundreds of thousands enjoy using two wheels to get around.
“Our cycling revolution is rapidly gathering pace but there’s still huge potential to increase the number of journeys that Londoners make by bike.”
Transport for London said the two superhighway routes will cost £23million, with 10 more planned.
The highways are painted blue, but are not monitored by CCTV to make sure other vehicles do not use them.
Statistics show there has been a 117 per cent increase in cycle journeys in the last 10 years.
But on May 25 a cyclist was knocked down by a car in Tower Bridge Road – an area not included in the first superhighways.
This year has already seen two cyclists killed in Southwark, including medical student Muhammed Ahmed.
The 21-year-old was pronounced dead in Weston Street, London Bridge, in March after being knocked down by a lorry.
Val Shawcross, London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark and City Hall transport committee chairwoman, said the highways would not provide enough protection to cyclists.
She said: “I have had quite a lot of critical comments about the scheme for cyclists.
“It does nothing for the appearance of the environment with a blue lane down the road.
“I have also been told it doesn’t offer much protection for cyclists.
“I think it works out at a million pounds per kilometre. The whole concept was overblown. People expected to have a lane where they got priority and instead what they’ve got is a decorated bit of road.
“These lanes seem to disappear just when cyclists need them most.”

I've been involved in a relationship with James Lundie since around 2001 - about two years after first moving in with him. Our relationship has been unknown to both family and friends throughout that time.
I claimed back the costs of sharing a home in Kennington with James from 2001 to June 2007.
