... Well, with one particular station, anyway. The anomaly is called the Kennington Loop. ...
... What is the Kennington Loop?
The Kennington Loop is a bizarre quirk where trains on the Northern Line reverse.
Usually when trains terminate they are sent to a depot - so the driver can get into the rear cab and go back northbound - but when southbound services terminate at Kennington, the train does a huge underground circle by the Oval cricket ground.
This means the train doubles back on itself and arrives in a northbound direction at Kennington again. So you can visit the station twice, technically in one journey. ...
... I suppose that's probably only helpful if you actually need to get off at Kennington, but it's still a cool quirk. ...
... It's the question on everyone's lips (ok, well, on your lips if you're a train nerd)... Will the Kennington Loop still exist after the Northern Line extension? ...
... Transport for London says as fewer trains will be terminating at Kennington when the extension opens (because trains will continue to the two new stations) the loop is likely to be used less. ...
