“Ribticklers”: An Evening of Vintage Comedy
“Ribticklers”: An Evening of Vintage Comedy
After mining the archives of TV, radio, film and music hall, journalist and writer Terry Sanderson introduces comedy geniuses of the past, with comedy gems from both sides of the Atlantic that are still sparkling and laugh-out-loud hilarious – from Laurel & Hardy, Pete & Dud, The Three Stooges, Lucille Ball, The Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields, Norman Evans, Sandy Powell, Gracie Fields, Bob & Ray, Max Wall and many more.
Terry Sanderson says: “Not all comedy stands the test of time and sometimes we look back on things that made us laugh years ago and now find it embarrassingly unfunny. I have only included those sketches, stand-up routines, film clips and TV excerpts that prompted a real belly laugh when I saw them. There is something for everyone, from sketches and slapstick to surrealism, stand-up and silliness. It’s all innocent fun, and its sole purpose is to wring guffaws of delight from the audience…”
A Christmas treat for all the family – full of guaranteed laughs!
Doors open 18.30 for a 19.30 start, and the event is expected to end at 22.30. Seasonal refreshments will be available.

Dear Two Borough Member,
My name is Samantha Nurse, I am introducing myself as the new Two Boroughs Project Manager. I have taken over the post from Kirstin Shirling whom you may have had contact with in the past. I wanted to introduce myself and to also let you know of a great opportunity here at the Young Vic Theatre !
This coming spring, the Young Vic is producing the first ever stage version of Jung Chan’s Wild Swans.
We are recruiting two, alternate community choruses to join our professional cast on stage each night; we are looking for people of Chinese and East Asian heritage to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
I am hoping that you might be interested or willing to pass on the information about this performance opportunity to those you know might be interested? We would love to meet you and speak with you about this project if you should require further information. Attached is a pdf version of the chorus information flyer, I have an html version that can be directly forwarded on to people that I can also email over to you.
Potential chorus members do not need any experience of performing, they just need to be interested in being in the show, 18 years or over and be able to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule. We will be holding fun and friendly workshop auditions on the evenings of Thursday 5 and Friday 6 January 2012. The rehearsals will then take place in January and March/April and performances will take place during the weeks of 16, 23, 30 April and 7 May 2012.
I hope you may be able to spread the word or know someone of Chinese or East Asian heritage who may take advantage of this unique opportunity and hope to see you here on the stage of the Young Vic Theatre ! Please call Marcella Hughes on 0207 922 2845 or email wildswans@youngvic.org if you require further information or to book a fun workshop audition !
Look forward to meeting you in the future,
Samantha Nurse

Attempted burglary
Dear All,
If appropriate, please could you put out on your network :-
We had an attempted burglary at the vicarage last night
- those involved managed to break through our security gate off Stables Way
and tried to break down the garden fence to get access to the vicarage
- fortunately the door held but it was clearly quite a sustained attack .

Hamlet arrives at the Young Vic!
Dear Friends,
Please find below an invitation to book tickets for your group to come along and see Hamlet at the Young Vic.
I would love you to join us at the Young Vic to experience a very different and very exciting staging of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.
Due to the high demand of tickets for this show (we are already SOLD OUT to the general public) there are couple of things to bear in mind when requesting tickets…
- You must allocate one group leader. This person will receive a confirmation from me and also be responsible for picking up the tickets on the night for their group. I will need an email and phone number for this person.
- I completely understand how difficult groups can be to organise and that sometimes people can not come along at the last minute, but please do your best to ensure that all your tickets are used. Once booked and confirmed, just let me know of the numbers change. I will have people on a waiting list that will be very happy to come along if you have cancellations!
- If anyone in your group has ANY access requirements, I will need to know as soon as possible, to ensure that I can accommodate them in the best way possible. It may not be possible to accommodate requests on the night that you arrive at the theatre.
- These free tickets are on offer to any community group in Lambeth or Southwark. We have a particular focus on welcoming people who may not have visited the theatre before. We are more than happy to help with making your visit here as easy and accessible as possible – just get in touch and have a chat if you would like further information about the show, the Young Vic, or bringing first time theatre goers to the Young Vic!
We are really excited about being able to offer these free tickets to our local community and we hope that you will be able to bring along some people from your group.
Please see the information attached which gives details of the dates we have free ticket availability.
To request tickets, I need....
Your Preferred Date:
Number of tickets: (absolute max 20)
Name and contact phone number of Group Leader:
I will confirm the booking with you as soon as possible.
If you have ANY QUESTIONS or would like to chat further about your visit… give me a call on 020 7922 2861.
Best wishes, Kirstin
(Please be aware Hamlet is recommended for ages 15+ and there may be some scenes with adult themes)

The objectives of the Two Boroughs Project are…
- To open the doors of our theatre to our local community
- To remove the practical barriers that prevents people from attending both theatre in general, and the Young Vic in particular.
- To challenge the perception that “theatre is not for me”.
- To lay the foundations for a sustained relationship between residents of Lambeth and Southwark, and the Young Vic.

Support your Local Theatre (and save money) by seeing:
Gunpowder Theatre
Presents
DAYS OF THE COMMUNE
By Bertold Brecht
"Truth can be written in ink.
Lies must be written in blood."
Paris, 1871.
The end of the bitter Franco Prussian war and the people of Paris are starving within their city walls.
The national government have set up in Versailles leaving the city without leadership.
In the uprising of a people to claim what is rightfully theirs, and the fight to keep it, comes a question still valid today: must peace be sacrificed to be achieved?
Brecht's most ambitious (and rarely performed) historical play and his last original work explores the Paris Commune, one of the first workers' revolutions and the model for Communism as we know it today.
Revived by Gunpowder Theatre in association with the White Bear Theatre.
This play is part of the White Bear's Revolution, Reaction and Reform Season, which will include Count Oderland by Max Frisch and The Sixteenth Floor by Ayn Rand, which explore the inevitable conflict between collective action and individual choice.
Count Oderland was on Kenneth Tynan's list of un-produced plays which he believed should be produced by the National. Ayn Rand is the author of the hugely influential The fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.

Since I got my first camera as a teenager, I have been taking photos of places I have visited, documenting their natural beauty which I have always been attracted to. Growing up in the countryside created a bond between me and nature which I have always carried with me and has influenced my passion for landscape photography. I am finding peace being far away from the constant buzz of cities and walking around with my camera. Taking a picture I am experiencing moments of ‘stillness’ and feel like I am a part of it all.
Images which are important to me are not necessarily the most beautiful ones, but those with a story behind them, where I have experienced something… that could have been a massive storm, days of solitude or simply waking up being on top of the mountain and enjoying the first sun rays caressing my face gently.
I have been always interested in the link between human beings and the surroundings where they lived, the way place/nature shape them and leave its mark on human body and soul.
Another thing which interests me is the scale/proportion…. there is no better place than mighty mountains to realise that we are so small and insignificant, that we are just visiting and those places have been there for millions of years, quite often unchanged and not really inhabited.
The exhibition consists of black and white landscapes from Hebrides, Poland, Slovakia, Wales and other places. Some of the images were taken on black and white film, transparencies and even IR film. Finally some of them are digital photographs converted into black and white images in postproduction. Most of the images are part of my other projects and I have put them together for this exhibition.
Landscape inspirations : Ansel Adams, Paul Caponigro, Aaron Siskind, Jerry Uelsmann and more.
