Why must they cut services?

Friday, 07 November 2008

I have read your article (“Concierge cuts ‘will fuel crime’ ”, South London Press, October 24).

I live on the Ethelred Estate in one of the blocks.

My opinion is that Lambeth Living should not cut these services, but find other ways of saving money. Our concierges don’t earn a large wage to begin with.

Why don’t they get rid of some of those at the top who earn big wages for sitting around pen-pushing?

The concierge service is good to have.

If anything goes wrong, they are there to report it to. They are also helpful.

Without them there would be vandalism and who knows what else. We don’t want it to happen and, even if the shifts are cut, we will still have to pay the same amount.

Lambeth Living has put up the cost of everything.

They could save money by turning off the lights – left burning all day, all night, 365 days a year.

These used to come on and go off at a certain time, but not any more.

It’s the same in the garages.

Why can’t they put the lights on a timer to come on when you go in and switch off when you leave? It all saves money. All the extra costs they pass on to the tenants and leaseholders.

My husband and I are pensioners and we don’t want to see our concierges go and we don’t want cutbacks. I think it stinks what they are doing and so will a lot of other tenants.
