As announced at the January meeting, Cathy
Preece has kindly offered to sell unwanted books, CDs, DVDs, Blue
Rays, Amazon games and small electronics (no full-size computers,
please!) to raise money for the Library via the Friends. Anything that
she cannot sell on-line she will take to local charity shops or arrange
for eco-friendly disposal. Together with the Kennington
Companions she has already raised a considerable sum for the
Haemochromatosis Society, so let’s see if we can’t beat that for
the Durning!
There will be a bin in the library to collect your donations or you can deliver to Cathy direct.
Please contact her on KenningtonCompanions@gmail.com if you wish to do that or if you have any questions.

The memoir "Love and War in the Apennines" by Kennington resident the late Eric Newby was discussed on "A Good Read" on Radio 4 on 4th February. It is a favourite book of the presenter Harriett Gilbert. Other participants mentioned Eric's bravery, and asked whether Eric and Wanda really fell in love under those conditions.
Harriett Gilbert had asked her mother whether Wanda was still alive, and her mother had assured her that Wanda must be, because she was tough. And indeed Wanda is very much alive and still living in Kennington.
Eric Newby gave a collection of his books to the Durning Library, and gave a memorable reading from the book there a few summers ago.
The repeat is this Friday night, 7th February. You can listen again for a week.
