Important travel update for the festive period

Kennington - From Friday 26 December until Saturday 3 January, Kennington Lane will be closed southbound due to gas main replacement work. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Festive services

The main changes to our services are as follows:

Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December - A reduced weekday service will operate across the Tube network from mid-afternoon. Last trains will be earlier than usual. Most buses will run until just after midnight.

Christmas Day, Thursday 25 December - There will be no service on the entire TfL network.

Boxing Day, Friday 26 December - A reduced service will operate on most of the network; there will be no service on London Overground and the Waterloo & City line. London Underground services will start later than usual at around 08:30.

New Year’s Eve, Wednesday 31 December - Free travel will be provided on most of our services from 23:45 until 04:30. London Underground services will operate through the night on all lines except the Waterloo & City line which will close at 02:40.

From around 14:00, Victoria Embankment, Westminster Bridge and central London roads will start to close to prepare for celebrations so buses will gradually be withdrawn. Lambeth, Waterloo and Blackfriars bridges and most affected roads will be closed from 20:00 and will re-open at 06:00, provided it is safe to do so.

New Year’s Day, Thursday 1 January - A special service will operate on most of the network.

Friday 2 January - The Waterloo & City line will operate a normal weekday service; all other Tube lines will run a Saturday service. There will be no service on the Kensington (Olympia) branch of the District line.

Public transport and road users
As this is a quieter time of year, we are taking the opportunity to carry out improvements and maintenance. Even on Christmas Day, when the entire public transport network is closed, there will be over 1,000 of our team working.







London Underground

Central line
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 January, trains will not run between Marble Arch and Holborn. Additionally, from Monday 5 January, Central line trains will not stop at Tottenham Court Road until early December 2015. This is to enable improvement work at Tottenham Court Road station.



Circle line
From Friday 26 to Tuesday 30 December, there is no service between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria. This is for us to carry out track and drainage replacement work in the Earls Court area and station improvement work at Victoria.



District line
From Friday 26 to Tuesday 30 December, trains will not run between Edgware Road/Embankment and Ealing Common/Richmond/Wimbledon/Kensington (Olympia). This is to allow for track and drainage replacement work at Earls Court and station improvement work at Victoria. Piccadilly line trains to/from Heathrow and Uxbridge will call additionally at Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green and Chiswick Park.



Hammersmith & City line
On Wednesday 31 December, there is no service between 10:00 and 15:30 to enable an all-night service to run on New Year’s Eve.



Jubilee line
From Friday 26 to Tuesday 30 December, trains will not run between Waterloo and Finchley Road. This is to enable us to carry out essential tunnelling work.



Piccadilly line
From Saturday 27 to Tuesday 30 December, Arsenal station will be closed while we carry out station improvement work.

On Wednesday 31 December, there is no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge to allow us to provide an all-night service to run on New Year’s Eve.



Waterloo & City line
On Friday 26 December, there is no service and on Thursday 1 January, services will start at 08:00.






London Overground


On Boxing Day, Friday 26 December, there will be no service on London Overground.

Several closures are planned due to Earls Court development work, Thameslink work at London Bridge and Network Rail track and bridge work. Trains will not run on the following dates between the stations listed:
On Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 December between Surrey Quays and New Cross
From 19:30 on Tuesday 23 and all day Wednesday 24 December between Clapham Junction and Kensington (Olympia)
On Saturday 27 December until 08:15 between Clapham Junction and Kensington (Olympia)
On Saturday 27 December between Gospel Oak and Barking
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 December between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction/Crystal Palace/West Croydon
On Sunday 28 December between South Tottenham and Barking
On Saturday 3 January between Clapham Junction and Kensington (Olympia)
On Sunday 4 January between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction
On Sunday 4 January until 12:00 between South Tottenham and Barking







Docklands Light Railway


On Friday 26 December, there is no service between Canning Town and Beckton due to Crossrail work at Custom House.







London Buses


Central London, Marylebone Road - From Friday 26 December until Sunday 4 January, a series of improvement works will take place on Marylebone Road and Euston Road (A501). These will be between the Westway Flyover (A40) at Edgware Road and King’s Cross. This route will be seriously disrupted during this time and buses may be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Hammersmith - From 22:30 on Thursday 18 until 05:00 on Friday 19 December, overnight work will take place on the Hammersmith Flyover. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Westminster - From 18:00 on Friday 19 until midnight Sunday 21 December, traffic may be disrupted in Parliament Square as a result of a protest. Buses may be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

A10 High Road, Tottenham - From Tuesday 23 until Sunday 28 December, High Road (A10) will be closed between Seven Sisters Road and Amhurst Park due to Network Rail bridge replacement work. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Kennington - From Friday 26 December until Saturday 3 January, Kennington Lane will be closed southbound due to gas main replacement work. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Central London - On Wednesday 31 December, from around 14:00, central London roads will start to close to prepare for New Year’s Eve celebrations so buses will gradually be withdrawn. Affected roads will be closed from 20:00 and will re-open at 06:00, provided it is safe to do so. For more information, please click here

Central London - On Thursday 1 January from 06:00, road closures will be in place as London’s annual New Year’s Day Parade takes place between Piccadilly and Parliament Square. Roads are expected to re-open by 18:00. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination. For more information, please click here

Ilford - From 21:00 on Monday 5, Thursday 8 and Friday 9 January until 05:30 on Saturday 10 January, overnight roadworks are in place on Eastern Avenue (A12) between Beehive Lane and the Gants Hill Roundabout, for road resurfacing work. Buses may be diverted or stop short of their normal destination.







Roads


The Congestion Charge will be suspended for a week, from Thursday 25 December until Thursday 1 January. The normal charge will apply again from Friday 2 January 2015.

Road users may be affected by the following:

Central London, Marylebone Road - From Friday 26 December until Sunday 4 January, a series of improvement works will take place on Marylebone Road and Euston Road (A501). Edgware Road - From 08:00 on Saturday 20 until 05:30 on Monday 22 December, lane closures are in place at Maida Vale at the junction of Blomfield Road. This is due to Thames Water work.

A10 High Road, Tottenham - From Tuesday 23 until Sunday 28 December, High Road (A10) will be closed between Seven Sisters Road and Amhurst Park due to Network Rail bridge replacement work.

Kennington - From Friday 26 December until Saturday 3 January, Kennington Lane will be closed southbound due to gas main replacement work.

Finchley Road - From Saturday 27 December until Sunday 4 January, lane restrictions are in place on Finchley Road (A41). This is while Thames Water carries out work.

East London - From Saturday 27 December until Sunday 4 January, temporary traffic signals are in place on the A102 Homerton High Street, at the junction of Wardle Street. This is while Thames Water carries out essential sewer repair work.

Central London - On Wednesday 31 December, from around 14:00, central London roads will start to close to prepare for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Affected roads will be closed from 20:00 and will re-open at 06:00, provided it is safe to do so. For more information, please click here
