KA Bazaar: Funds for Lollard Street Adventure Playground - Saturday, 21 April at St Anselm’s Church Hall from 11am to 1:30pm

volunteers needed for aPril BAZAAR!

The KA Bazaar is one of our main sources of funding. We have a grand team and the work is great fun, but rather physical and done to a tight schedule. But it’s a great way to get to know your neighbours. And we urgently need volunteers starting at 6pm on Friday night to sort through the donations and generally bring organisation to chaos!!

We also need strong bodies to carry bulky items on Friday and to dismantle tables and shift stalls on Saturday.

The next Bazaar is on Saturday, 21 April at St Anselm’s Church Hall from 11am to 1:30pm. This is a great chance to have a good Spring Cleaning of your wardrobe and re-cycle some unexpected gifts left from Christmas. Please bring saleable items to the hall from 6pm to 8pm on the evening before or from 9am to 10am on Bazaar day. If you need help with bulky items, please email KenningtonAssociation@gmail.com.

Cinema Museum: This week: An Evening with Carol Cleveland - Saturday 31 Mar 2012 @ 19:30

An Evening with Carol Cleveland - Saturday 31 Mar 2012 @ 19:30

In what promises to be a highly entertaining evening, we are joined by actress Carol Cleveland of Monty Python fame, in conversation with Professor Steve Chibnall.

Often playing the archetypal blonde bombshell, she appeared in 30 episodes of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and all the feature films, and was regularly referred to as “the seventh Python”. “What was it like working with those guys? DULL!! Dull, dull, dull! (and if you believe that, you’ll believe anything).”

According to Michael Palin, “She was the unsung heroine because she was so spot on. We never had to tell her how to play a scene, she just had a Python way of thinking about it.”

Our event will feature an exclusive extract from Carol’s humorous one-woman autobiographical show dissecting the concept of glamour, Pom-poms Up!

This is one of five Cine Sisters events being run in association with the Cinema & Television History (CATH) Research Centre at De Montfort University.

Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start, and the event is expected to end at 22.30.

Refreshments will be available.

To book your tickets please call/email us 020 7840 2200/ info@cinemamuseum.org.uk or go to www.wegottickets.com.

The ticket prices are £8.50/£6.50 (concs) in advance or £10/£7 on door.

Best Regards

White Bear Theatre: KA Offer: The Alchemist by Ben Jonson

The Alchemist

by

Ben Jonson

When gentleman Lovewit is forced to flee his London dwelling, conmen Face
and Subtle set up shop. Jonson's acerbic satire on human folly, greed, and
vanity sees a succession of fools and fops hoodwinked by the work of our
(anti-)heroes. Their victims come seeking the elixirs and potions for sexual
conquests, endless riches and eternal youth.

Let Them Call It Mischief have located The Alchemist in Victorian London,
where a sense of grime and intrigue is intertwined with elements of the
vaudeville and music hall. With original music from composer Jenny Green and
innovative design by Ele Slade, expect to be surprised and entertained in
equal measure.

Let Them Call It Mischief is a new company formed in 2011. Their founding
members all hail from London, and have worked at some of the city's most
interesting arts organisations, including the Barbican, Theatre Royal
Stratford East and Théâtre de Complicité. The company aim is to revive
lesser-known plays about London, and to find relevant and resonant venues in
which to produce them. They are delighted to be making their début at the
multi-award winning White Bear Theatre in Kennington.

ICP - Half a Sixpence

INNER CITY PLAYERS

Spring musical - this week, this week, this week!

This Year’s musical extravaganza will be ‘Half Sixpence’ based on the novel ‘Kipps’ by H G Wells. It takes place in 1900 in Folkestone. The story is about a fairly down trodden young man, Kipps (Edwin Malins) who inherits a fortune and ‘stepping up in society’ goes to his head so he ends up getting engaged to a woman who spends her time trying to ‘sort him out’ in speech and etiquette. However, at the beginning of the story Kipps had given half a sixpence to his childhood sweetheart, Ann, and needless to say she turns up and it all ends up happily ever after! Lots of strong characters and some well know music such as ‘Flash, Bang, Wallop’. ‘Money to Burn’ and ‘If the Rain’s Got to Fall’, turns it into a lively and enjoyable show.

MARCH 22 – 24 AT 7.30 AND MATINEE AT 3PM ON 24TH,

AT THE LAMBETH MISSION & ST MARY’S, 3 -5 LAMBETH ROAD.

Tickets £7.00 and £5.00

Quotes ‘A fantastic show with lots of real talent’

‘It really cheered me up watching the fun they were having on the stage and the so obvious talent many of , even the smaller parts displayed’

‘A well-constructed musical with lots of peaks and troughs and some wonderful songs’

Lambeth's library consultation meetings

You may know already that as part of the consultation process about
the future of Lambeth's library service, there are to be consultation
meetings in local libraries. Two are scheduled for the Durning, one
on Tuesday 20 March, 7.00 - 9.00 pm and the second on Monday 26 March,
10.00 - 12.00 noon
. They will be quite informal and there will be
opportunities to talk to officials and discuss what users want.
Members of the Durning Friends' committee will also be there. These
are in addition to the public meeting held by the Friends on 27
February.

There is a very detailed consultation document which is available on

the Lambeth website
(http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/5DD27AAE-AEE6-4AC2-9DA8-AE8E849EE9D4/0/ConsultationinformationFINAL.pdf)
as is the associated questionnaire, which we hope people will
complete.

The Durning Friends would like to encourage anyone interested in their

library to go to one of these meetings, even if they have already been
to the one held by the Friends in February. The Library Service needs
as much feedback as possible from users and the meetings will be a
chance to talk informally to officials. There is more information on
the Lambeth website but anything you can do to publicise the meetings
would be very welcome.
