The Cinema Museum: Wee Willie Harris Still Rocking – Sunday 13 May 16.00 – 19.00

The Cinema Museum and Archive Film Agency present a free film preview screening with Wee Willie Harris in person.

The film ‘Wee Willie Harris Still Rocking’ documents his life in his own words, and is lavishly illustrated from Willie’s archive of photos, home movies and performance footage.

Ian Dury named him on his hit song ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’ and John and Paul, two of the Beatles, queued for his autograph when they were starting out.
Known as ‘Britain’s Wild Man of Rock’, Willie has topped the bill all over the world and performed with legendary artists such as Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent and the Big Bopper.

He talks about his early life growing up in Bermondsey, living just round the corner from Tommy Steele; his near fatal war time experiences during the London blitz; performing in talent contests and being discovered at the famous 21’st Coffee Bar in 1957; becoming the first ‘Punk Rocker’ with his hair dyed shocking pink by a Kennington hairdresser and becoming a regular on Britain’s first TV pop programme ‘6.5 special’ produced by the dynamic Jack Good.

Willie goes on to talk about being the first British performer to tour extensively around the world, making a living from show business singing Rock ‘n’ Roll, Country, Blues and performing stand-up comedy as part of his act. He has just returned from Italy where he is still known as ‘ The Leopard Man’.

Family and friends from the music industry join Willie who will answer questions about his life and the people he has known after the screening.

Doors open at 15.00 for a 16.00 start, and the event is expected to end at 19.00.
