New shared-ownership homes in Oval

Oval will be thrust into the spotlight in three weeks with the final match in the Ashes Test series. At other times, this no-frills area struggles to have an identity beyond the world-famous cricket ground, despite being a well-connected Zone 2 address, close to the river, and a short hop from the West End and the City.

Yet, step beyond the cricket ground, ringed by dreary tenements and a gas works, and there are some property surprises: handsome Edwardian mansion blocks, lofts in factory and school conversions, charming Duchy of Cornwall Estate homes — cottages and townhouses built just before the First World War — and delightful Bonnington Square, with its resident-run pleasure garden and cafĂ©.
