Rapist kidnapped baby
Thursday, 05 February 2009
Jordan Shodeke
A FITNESS instructor who raped a charity worker and kidnapped her baby was jailed for 13-and-a-half years on Friday.
Jordan Shodeke, 26, trapped the woman in his home after they met up for a drink and throttled her until she started to lose consciousness.
Following the sex attack he launched a “campaign of terror” against the victim, calling her incessantly and turning up at her work making violent threats.
In October 2007, he confronted her in the street and kidnapped her baby, said Karen Holt, prosecuting at Inner London Crown Court.
She watched helplessly as the thug grabbed the tot like a “rag doll” and yanked him from his pushchair.
He punched the young mother to the ground and hit her heavily pregnant sister in the stomach in front of their aunt and uncle.
Shodeke even threatened to hurl the week-old boy into a canal but instead dumped him in the dingy stairwell of a block of flats.
Shodeke, of Cotton Gardens Estate, Kennington Lane, denied any wrongdoing.
But a jury found him guilty of a total of nine counts between December 2006 and October 2007, including the rape, kidnap of the charity worker’s baby, and causing fear of violence by harassment.
He was also convicted of falsely imprisoning the charity worker, two counts of actual bodily harm and one of common assault.
He was cleared of raping two other women and holding one of them against their will.
