COPS are hunting a hit-and-run driver who crashed into a woman in a stolen car.

It happened on Sunday when police patrolling Mitcham Road, Tooting, became suspicious of a red Mini driving towards them.

After checks, they discovered the car had been stolen in Kennington that day.

The driver fled from the cops by turning into Upper Tooting Road, but hit a pedestrian after he tried to overtake traffic by going on to the wrong side of the road.

The Mini mounted the pavement and went into the 42-year-old woman who was standing on the pavement.

It also hit a traffic light control box before crashing into the window of Superdrug.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to St George’s Hospital by ambulance.

She was released the next day.

The driver, described as black and aged between 18 and 20, was not traced despite a police search with a helicopter.

A shop assistant from Superdrug said: “The car went into one of the windows but luckily it didn’t smash, it just bent it a bit.

“It’s all boarded up and will be repaired in the next few days.

“Two members of staff were here at the time but no one was injured, which was good.”
