Kennington Cross Flower Stall
Re-opening 23rd January 2009
The Kennington Cross flower stall managed by Tomorrow’s People, will re-open on the weekend of the 23rd/24th January after a short New Year break.
Run as a “social” enterprise and part of the proposed Kennington Cross Arts-Lav project, it is hoped that the project will move to the island site in the next 4 – 6 weeks.
Tomorrow’s People is a national charity with a long track record of helping people out of long-term unemployment and into jobs and self-sufficiency. Since 1984, the charity has supported over 400,000 people on their journey back into work.
As a social enterprise, the flower stall provides meaningful work, placements and training for people furthest from the employment market. Current trainees are drawn from an existing Tomorrow's Peoples programme called “Working It Out” a programme specifically designed for young people and new trainees will be joining the team in 2009. We are pleased to confirm that of the seven trainees who have benefited from placement since May 2008, six have secured work or are back in education and the seventh intends to make an application to University for 2009.
The trainees from the WIO programme gain experience not only in “sales”, but also are able to develop and practice skills in areas such as;
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service
- Money management and mental arithmetic
- Stock management and control
- Budgeting, margins and business development
- Marketing
We look forward to seeing our regular customers later in the month and hope also to welcome new customers. We offer cut flowers and plants and can provide floral displays for formal and informal occasions.
