There have been complaints about sirens being over used
A SENIOR cop has asked officers to reduce the use of sirens following protests that they are interrupting people’s sleep.
Superintendent Andy Howe was responding to complaints from the Kennington Association, which said the use was “excessive”.
Its view was supported by Labour London Assembly member Val Shawcross.
Supt Howe said the issue was “challenging” for officers.
He said: “There are views that less use reduces perception and fear of crime, with a counter view that we must use all warning equipment as often as possible to ensure safe driving.
"I am currently attending all team parades and will mention this particular issue to reduce use of audible warning equipment where appropriate.”
