Berkeley Homes development on the Oval gasholder site

Dear All,

Harry Briggs, one of our residents, is very concerned about the proposals by Berkeley Homes (and Lambeth) for the redevelopment of the Oval gasholder site and has prepared a short questionnaire that he hopes residents will complete.

He has supplied the details below:

Berkeley Homes are the developers of those green towers next to Vauxhall Bridge.  They are trying to get planning permission to redevelop a large 11-acre site in the heart of Kennington - including the Tesco superstore and car-park, the Oval Gas-holders, and the area around the Beefeater distillery on Montford Place.

Berkeley Homes have proposed towers up to 18-storeys in the area, even though there is no building more than 6-7 storeys in the area today.  They say they have consulted the neighbourhood, but many of those affected have not been consulted, and plans seem to be moving ahead rapidly.

We think this is a great opportunity to enhance the area - but are nervous that Berkeley will put high-rises and profit before neighbourhood needs: so it would be very helpful if we have lots of residents' input to this survey, to ensure our voice is heard clearly:

It should only take a minute - and please share it with any other neighbours in the area who might not be on the mailing list.
