Dressage rider Sam eyes 2012 Olympic Games

YOUNG EQUESTRIAN dressage rider Sam Martin has his eyes on competing at the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 27 year-old was born and bred in south London and his first experience of riding was on a donkey called, Jacko, at the Vauxhall City Farm.
At the age of just 10 Sam got the riding bug he saw a woman walking a horse around his council estate.
He asked her about her horse and where she kept it, she suggested he visited Vauxhall City Farm – and the rest is history.
Sam subsequently spent most days down the yard helping out, grooming, horse riding and mucking out.
His love for horses continued and he managed to save up for his first horse when he was 18.
He now competes in dressage competitions throughout the United Kingdom. He has won Open Mediums with his advanced horse and he has been training with International dressage rider and trainer Emile Faurie [who has represented Great Britain at world and Olympic level] in the Cotswolds.
Sam’s profile and image were used by the British Equestrian Federation to help launch their Olympic Legacy Project at the world famous Burghley Horse Trials.
Sam, of Nigerian and British heritage, takes his horses into inner London schools to demonstrate the skills needed to ride and how to get started.
He feels that his horses are a great way to engage with young people and has also worked with serial offenders through projects set up with the Metropolitan Police.
