Doubts cast over Portugal Day
Monday, 15 June 2009
THE venue of a popular festival could be switched or the event might not go ahead because of a late licence application.
Organisers of the annual Portugal Day festival – which is normally held in Kennington Park – have applied to hold the event on Streatham Common on Sunday, June 21.
But police have raised concerns about the late application to switch the venue because of a lack of information from organisers relating to the safety and security provisions for the event.
Lambeth has arranged a special meeting of its licensing subcommittee to consider the application.
The meeting will take place at Lambeth town hall in Brixton on Wednesday at 10am.
