A YOUNG man died after being shot several times while turning his car around in a quiet street.

Nathan Williams, 24, from Kennington, was driving his VW Golf car in Ludwick Mews, New Cross, at around 1.30am on Tuesday when he was killed.

The victim was performing a three-point turn while parking to visit a friend when he was shot.

The car then crashed through a lamppost before careering into another car, according to eyewitnesses.

He was taken by paramedics to King’s College Hospital, in Denmark Hill, and pronounced dead at around 2.10am.

Neighbour Filiz Salih, 52, said: “One of the neighbours over the road said she had heard the shots and went to see into the car and he was still moving.

“I woke up having heard the noise outside and a woman ran out screaming.

"This street is generally an ok area and a lot of people have lived around here a while and seen the area change hugely, especially over the last five or six years.

“I’ve lived here 28 years and am reluctant to move, although my husband did mention the idea of moving away after this.”

A post-mortem at Greenwich Mortuary on Tuesday gave cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.

Trident’s Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison said: “The man was in the process of turning the car around and was two thirds into a three-point turn when he was shot.

"We are looking for anyone in the vicinity of the street at around 1.30am.

"We’ve got a number of suspects and are in the process of investigating.”

Meanwhile, police are also appealing for information after a 19-year-old man who was shot close to the junction of Deptford High Street and Evelyn Street at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

No arrests have been made and the teenager’s condition was described as non life-threatening.
