Biker arrested after Kennington Road smash

Monday, 03 August 2009

A MOTORCYCLIST who sped away from cops has been arrested for hitting and injuring a pedestrian.

Debris littered the normally busy Kennington Road on Monday night after the smash.

At around 4pm, a marked police car flashed its lights and sirens trying to get the rider of a white motorbike to stop on Kennington Lane.

Seconds later, after turning onto the Kennington Road, the rider hit a 59-year-old pedestrian.

The victim was taken to King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill were he is in a “serious” but stable condition.

The 24-year-old rider was also taken to King’s with an arm injury and later discharged. He has since been arrested.

More than four separate paramedic teams were sent to the scene of the accident.

Traffic was diverted while officers investigated the scene.

Cops say the police vehicle was “not pursuing” the rider at the time of the collision.
