3:30pm Wednesday 29th July 2009
POLICE are looking for four men in connection with the shooting of a 24-year-old black man on Tuesday morning (July 28).
Officers were called to Ludwick Mews in New Cross at 1.30am to discover Nathan Williams of Kennington in a VW Golf suffering from gunshot wounds.
An ambulance took him to a south London hospital but he was pronounced dead at 2.11am.
The road on the Woodpecker estate was cordoned off by police.
Neighbours said police cars and a helicopter were called to the scene and officers knocked on doors at around 2am to pursue their inquiries.
One 68-year-old resident, who did not want to be named, said he had been woken at 2.20am. He said: “I’m never surprised around here.
“We’ve had a lot of killings over the past few years and you wonder why people are moving out.
“You just have to take a chance if you live here.”
Another neighbour said: “It’s like the Wild West.
“For normal people it’s really scary. I’ve been asking the police to put CCTV here.
“It’s alright the police coming here when it happens but where were they before it happened?”
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
No arrests have been made.
Any witnesses or anyone with information should call 020 8247 4554 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Nathan Williams, aged 24, was killed in his car
